Right now it is the middle of July and you are hopefully enjoying the warm weather of summer. Your winter clothes are packed away or at the corner of the closet and you know by now what you have used and needed for the summer months. Now is a great time to look through your closet and dresser and identify the clothes and other seasonal items that you can declutter from your home.
Start with decluttering your closet. Open up the doors and take a good, and honest, look at what
you have hanging up. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What items have I not worn this summer?
- If I haven't worn them, am I saving them for some occasion this summer?
If you haven't worn a summertime outfit by now, odds are good that you won't wear it. If you don't wear it this summer it is pretty unlikely that you will wear it ever! Take the time to identify these pieces of clothing and make a meaningful donation to a charity.
After looking at the clothing hanging up, move on to the dresser and go through each
drawer. Do you have worn out socks or other items that need to be tossed? Now is the time to do it. There is no need to toss out good clothing, but we all hold on to some things for too long. Do yourself the favor or freeing up space so that you can easily find what you need, when you need it.
After looking through your drawers and removing old clothing clutter, go back to your closet and look at the floor and shelves. Are there summer items such as hats, sandals, or towels that haven't seen the light of day? If there are, you know what to do! Find them a better home where they will get used – if you aren't using them then they are just taking up space. Once you pass them along to someone who can really make use of them you will feel much better with the extra space, the cleaner closet, and knowing that someone will get some real use out of your extra belongings.
Take the time during the summer to lighten your load and help others out by decluttering your extra clothing and summertime belongings!
