A large part of getting rid of clutter is being organized, and we can all use help with closet organization ideas! It's an area that tends to be the "last bastion" of clutter in our homes. I've compiled a list of effective closet organization ideas to help you declutter and organize your closets - don't let you closets end up, or stay, like the one in the picture below!
Closet Organization Idea Basics
First things first; open up your closet and take an honest look around. Is it in bad shape? If so, no problem, but be open with yourself and admit that you need to get rid of some of the clutter if it is truly stuffed with odds and ends. Once you are ready to dive in, follow these steps: Continue reading
Ok, let's say that you have a handle on bringing in clutter to your kitchen, but you are still not organized and can't quite decide what to keep and what to toss. A lot of us find ourselves at this point sooner or later and you need to be prepared by having some quick solutions in place. Hopefully today's tip will help you reduce your kitchen (and other spaces) clutter while also helping you get your home more organized.
The idea behind the under shelf rack is simple; we want to free up space for the things we need, we want to create a system that helps us to keep only the items we require, and we don't want to spend a ton of money or have to jump through a bunch of hoops to reach this modest goal. That's one of the great things about the racks pictured below, let's step through the solutions they create one at a time: Continue reading
Shoes are great - I'm glad that I have a pair of sandals for warm days, my boots for the winter, and several other pairs for everything in between. What I don't like is when they get in the way, get scattered throughout the house, or otherwise complicate or clutter up my life.
So, what solution is there for shoe storage? Well, the good news is that there is a wide range of solutions and they are fairly easy to implement. Mostly it just takes some of your time and the will to follow through.
Shoe Storage Solutions
Entryway: If your entryway becomes a jumbled mess of shoes that looks more like an obstacle course than an entrance to a home, it is time to take some action. First things first - ask yourself if you and your family really needs all of those shoes. Do you have two pairs of shoes that you use for something? Toss one of them or donate them to someone in need. This will help you get rid of some clutter and make the next step easier. Continue reading
Do you have an area in your home that you wish you could get some help with? Do you want to get it decluttered? My solution is to help you - if you leave a comment below I will respond and help you get started in a room, find a storage solution for a messy area, or help with any other clutter related issue.
Helping out also brings up a good point - asking others for help when you are trying to get rid of clutter. There are a few issues that keep most people from reaching out and requesting or asking for help from friends, family, and others:
- Feelings of helplessness
- Embarrassment at not being able to "do it" themselves
Let me settle the first one quickly - if you are ready to ask for help you are certainly not helpless! The fact that you recognize that there is an issue that needs to be dealt with and that you may not be fully equipped to properly deal with it means that you need help and are smart enough to ask for it, not that you are helpless. When you walk into your home do you immediately see clutter in the entryway? This is not a great way to come into your, or anyone else's, home - imagine how much better you will feel with a clean entryway, reduced clutter, and the ability to make it happen!
There are several sources of clutter in the entryway, but most likely it comes from one of three places:
- Mail or paperwork
These all have quick fixes, but one of them might take a little time as you develop a new habit to deal with the clutter. Let's start with the easiest one first! Continue reading
Looking to improve your kitchen and reduce the clutter on your counters? A pot and pan hanger can help you free up counter space, improve the look of your kitchen, and make it easier to find and use your pots and pans. I'm putting one of these into my kitchen along with a hanging basket system for fruits, vegetables, and other items that I cook with frequently. Being able to have what you need right in front of you is very helpful and it keeps you aware of what you have. If you know what pots and pans you already have, you can keep those important pieces without going out and getting more. Additionally, you won't have to deal with deep drawers full of your pots and pans nested in each other and getting banged around.
There are several different ways to go about using a hanging system for reducing your kitchen clutter. The simplest, and quickest, is a wall mount that you can then use to hang pots and pans from. This is very easy to install and only take a few screws or nails. The downside is that you might have your pots and pans dinging the wall and you can only hang so many items from a smaller wall mount system.

A good place to start decluttering your kitchen is to get the kitchen drawers organized. They aren't often seen (assuming they can close!) but are usually responsible for the vast majority of our kitchen clutter.
Do you open your drawers and find a jumbled mess? When you open the silverware drawer are you faced with a tangled mess of silverware, napkins, and seemingly random objects?
Besides being able to hold our clutter and enabling further disorganization, having messy kitchen drawers can waste time as we scour through them in search of the one thing that we need. By being disorganized, the drawers also hide duplicates and make getting rid of kitchen clutter more difficult; if we cannot lay everything out and see what all we have we are more prone to keeping everything in the drawers and trying not to worry about it – but we can fix this quickly and easily! When you use your shower, and your bathroom in general, you want to come out of
there feeling clean and refreshed – how can you do that with a cluttered up shower with empty bottles and razors falling off of ledges? Besides being dangerous and annoying, having all of these extra things in the way makes cleaning the shower or bath tub take more time; if it takes more time we are less likely to even do it in the first place! Take a step in the right direction by making use of a shower rack or shower caddy to centrally locate all the things you need in the shower.
Simple and effective shower caddy
As I mentioned above, making use of a shower rack has many benefits. This one is an easy task, the racks are cheap and do not take any time or work to install. They usually just slide on over the shower head, although you can buy ones that either screw into the shower wall (some work required) or adhere via a suction cup or two if you do not, or cannot, hang it directly on the shower head.
We always want to make things easier and simpler for ourselves and those in our homes, making use of a shower organizer does this and makes your bathroom look nicer. Instead of odds and ends spread out inside the shower, on ledges, hanging over doors and curtain rods, you can have everything in one place. The result is more pleasing to see and easier to navigate! No more tripping over bottles that fall off the sides or avoiding razors that fly off the side of the tub. Continue reading
Whether you are at home or at the office you probably have a desk that sees regular use. And if you are like most people you probably have at least a few items that seem to have mysteriously obtained a permanent position on it. More likely, there is little actual desk to

be seen under the various odds and ends, paperwork, cups, wrappers, and other items on and in your desk. Taking back your desk by getting rid of the clutter can be a quick way to impove your productivity, organization, and give you a boost in your decluttering efforts – it can usually be accomplished quickly and with very little frustration.
Start by identifying what you need at, on, or in your desk. A couple pencils and pens? A pad of sticky notes or a notepad? Your address book? These are normal things that belong with your desk – watch out for the following items and get rid of them if you have them on your desk: Continue reading
You don't have to go out and spend a lot of money to get some decent shoe storage for cutting your entryway clutter, although there are some very nice options out there. One that I really like is the wood bench type shoe rack storage that allows you to store and organize your shoes while providing a bench to sit on while putting on or taking off your shoes. These are always highly reviewed pieces of furniture - I plan on getting one soon for my house!
